Landslide Preparedness
Landslides are a serious geologic hazard that
cause billions of dollars in damage and thousands of deaths and injuries each
year throughout the world. Often associated with periods of heavy rainfall or
rapid snow melt, landslides are capable of rapid movement with enormous
destructive capacity. Earthquakes and volcanic activity can also
precipitate landslides. Landslide preparedness involves individuals
knowing about the hazard potential where they live and taking various steps to
reduce the personal risk from these geologic phenomenon. These resources
provide basic information about landslides and landslide preparedness.
